Ric's Process Paper
The way I chose my topic is I went to the National History Day website and I went under good topics. I found one that I liked and many people were not using it. It was Television in the 1950’s and how it changed entertainment. I was interested in this topic so I decided to ask my friend Kei Young if he wanted to be my partner for it. He wanted to join me so together we began to research the topic.
The way I conducted my research was I looked up a few websites on how televisions were in the 1950’s. I found some old television shows that started in the 1950’s and how television’s looked in the 1950’s. I also researched on how television changed us. It has not exactly made us much smarter. Anyway the next day I went to the library and found a book called “TV Facts” and it was full of interesting things about television like television sales per year, the amount of views of different television shows etc. I used this book for a lot of my facts. Once all the research was done we had to decide how we were going to present our work.
So we talked about how we were going to present our topic. We thought about paper, and exhibit but we decided to do website. We thought this was the best because we are both computer savvy. By doing website we also could work on it from our homes instead of having to go over each other’s house and work. So we decided on website and got to work. I assigned each of us a part and we worked for a while.
My project relates to the National History Day theme by it involving televisions and how it changed us. The theme for National History Day is Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events. My topic is Television in the 1950’s and how it changed entertainment. So television changed our lives a lot. Since this is true, it works for the theme. It was a turning point in history because it changed all of our lives. This is how my topic relates to the National History Day Theme.

Kei's Process Paper
Choosing a topic:
The Topic we chose was television in the 1950’s and how it revolutionized our entertainment. How we got around to choosing the topic was that one day we were sitting there in a room trying to think of a topic when Ric decides to look on the National History Day website. There we looked through the recommendations paper and we saw that topic. We liked that topic because we both liked TV and history back then with all the great classics. And so the topic just stuck out to us so we chose it and that’s the origin of how we got our topic.
Research:
How we conducted research was a bit simple and “boring”. The major thing we used was Google and we got a lot from information by using that. Another information source was from our parents and grandparents. Our parents and grandparents were the ones who were there since the beginning and they experienced the whole thing and our topic is how it changed the world of entertainment so they were a perfect fit. One last place we got resources was self-experience and the stuff we had. One example is that we have actually seen some of the old shows, for instance Ric has watched “I love Lucy” before and it was one of the first major television shows. The part with the stuff we had was that Ric’s parents had old magazines from the 50’s that we could use as a resource.
Presentations:
How we chose our presentation style and how we were going to create the project was another thing we got the idea from the National History Day website. We learned you can create a website and we chose that because 1. We’re both nerds and 2. We are both good with computers. How we got around to doing the project was that we would go to each other’s house’s or just work alone and e-mail the stuff to each other. It was a great method except it could get confusing at times and/or we had other projects to do.
National History Day Relation:
This topic related to the main topic of the National History Day because Television is really big and to some of us is our life. Television was a turning point in history because it opened gates to many things. For example news, how would you get your up to date news without television? You would still get your news but probably a week after the thing actually happened. Another thing is that without it we would have never learned this advanced technology and acting. And lastly without television it would be real hard to advertise your store internationally if you store was an international business. And these things are a key factor in our lives and play major roles and that the main reason why it’s a turning point in history.
